The Christian Creed – A Meditative Path by Hans-Werner Schroeder

Unless you’ve studied the liturgy of The Christian Community, it’s unlikely that you’ve had a chance to work with our “Creed,” spoken by the priest during the Act of Consecration of Man. This book gave very precise and referenced clarification of how each phrase has been chosen to represent a pillar in the foundation of a true Christian esoteric faith. One interesting point made, was that we don’t recite our creed in unison as so many other churches do. Instead, it is evoked as a star that lends it’s light to the soul as we make our individual journey towards the Godhead. It is not required that you start from belief, but as you contemplate the meaning inherent in these statements, levels and layers of truth are revealed. Faith is not intended to be static but something that continually evolves as we embark on the path of meditative training, scriptural study, prayer, and living with the sacraments.

This short book also gives examples of how the creed can be used as a meditative path, taking one line to contemplate for a defined period, rather than reading it, or saying it by rote. The emphasis is placed on our freedom to discover a real and personal relationship to the Godhead; fount of all Being and redeemer of all that is fallen. The complexity of Divinity and its ongoing role in the lives of humanity was explored in a fresh and profound way. Altogether, an essential book to better understand and participate in The Christian Community.
