DESCRIPTION:For those who would like to understand the background to a modern esoteric approach to Christianity\, there is an ongoing study group who read aloud and discuss the content of books written by Christian Community priests or Rudolf Steiner. The group meets at the home of Diana Haynes at 2707 Tryon Rd\, Durham\, NC 27705. SUMMARY:Readings for the Dead
DESCRIPTION:Reading for the Dead is one of the ways that we as a community can honor our beloved one’s who have crossed the threshold\, but also to deepen our understanding of the nature of the spiritual worlds. In so doing\, we aid the passage of those beyond the threshold who seek those on earth who can connect with them\, and with life between death and rebirth. We strive to build a relationship with each other in a mutual relationship of spiritual seeking and understanding. We delve into the mysteries of life and life after death in an effort to bring alive what lives in us about the workings of the spiritual world.\n\n\nIn doing so\, we attune ourselves to what surrounds us in all we do\, feel and think. Life is an experience of living and becoming aware of what/who lives in the surrounding spaces of existence\, from the forces of nature in all its aspects to our relationships with each other as human beings and our Dead. \nWe engage with wonder and we listen deeply to our surroundings and to each other. We also struggle together to understand what it means to be a human being living a journey from heaven to earth and back again as we do in our individual karmic pictures. We acknowledge that we are spiritual beings attempting to make a true relationship to ourselves\, each other and to the forces at work in the world and beyond. \nMany come to our study on a regular basis. Some come for a shorter time when they have experienced the death of a friend or relative to seek comfort and deeper understanding of the journey from life to death and back to life. All are welcome to come. We engage in a verse and lyre playing at the beginning and at the end of our gathering. We enjoy many moods and experiences depending on who comes. It is a remarkably healing and uplifting experience to study and share together in this capacity. \nFor information about what lecture we are reading on a given Thursday\, please contact Joanna Carey. We will meet every other Thursday throughout the year.

DESCRIPTION:Genesis Lectures by Rudolf Steiner 1910. In this extraordinary document\, Steiner speaks of the six days of creation as  reawakening of the previous phases of the Earth’s development. He describes the work of mighty spiritual entitities called the Elohim\, and how they co-operated with other spiritual hierarchies in the creation of Earth. He also clarifies the relationship wof the Elohim and the biblical Jehovah. In addition\, Steiner discusses themes of light and darkness\, the meaning of Adam and Eve\, the ‘day of rest’ on the seventh day\, the stages of human development on Earth\, and the special character of the Hebrew Language.
