It builds upon itself like a well-maintained garden\, musicality or any acquired skill. It creates the space for the Divine will in us. We are the vessels through which the Holy Spirit can work. We are realizing the spiritual world in this world\, day by day.

DESCRIPTION: St John’stide\n\n\n\n\nJune 26 th at 10:30 am.  Our next Christian Community lay service will take place Sunday morning\, at the home of Buddy and Sarah Smiley at 228 Forest Hill Rd. Chapel Hill\, NC 27514. We will have our usual ceremony of lighting a candle\, reading a verse\, singing a song\, reading the Gospel for the day.  Then\, in honor of St John’stide\, we will have an additional reading about this festival and conversation inspired by the reading. We will close with a song\, a verse and extinguishing the candle. Afterwards\, we will share snacks\, tea and coffee. Please label food that you bring as we have several vegetarian\, vegan and gluten free folks who attend this gathering. Thank you! \nThis will be our last Lay service for the school year. SUMMARY:Good Friday - Stages of Christian Initiation
DESCRIPTION:Good Friday\, March 25\, 1:30 pm.  The Stages of Christian Initiation \nIn the past\, those who sought higher consciousness entered into Mystery Schools for training with a Priest-Hierophant who directed their every step. Today initiation occurs in everyday living without the help of an initiatory priest.  At the time of Christ\, it was impossible for one to have a full experience of Golgotha because mankind was still developing the Intellectual Soul. One had to wait until the development of the Consciousness Soul  to become mature enough to experience inwardly the Imaginations which begin to reveal the true reality of the Mystery of Golgotha. Christ Himself has become the Teacher for the Path of Christian Initiation. Meditating on the St. John Gospel will eventually lead to a Clairvoyant experience of the Mystery of Golgotha\, according to Rudolf Steiner. \nOn Good Friday we will explore the Path of these Stations of the Cross that are the basis for the stages of Christian Initiation. Referring to the lectures of Rudolf Steiner and the reflections of Kristina Kaine\, who has written a book “Reflections on the Seven Christian Initiations in the Gospel of St. John”\, we will explore how we can partake in this Mystery process with Christ.\nFollowing  a talk on this topic by Kathleen Wright\, participants will discuss their own understanding of the Mystery of Golgotha. They will then have the opportunity to meditate on the Stations of the Cross or walk the labyrinth on the beautiful grounds at Avila Retreat Center. Instructions for using the labyrinth will be handed out at Avila.\nMembers will gather in the parking lot at Avila at 1:30 PM sharp (please don’t be late) and we will walk to one of the outdoor gazebos for our talk. The grounds at Avila Retreat Center are open to the public; however a “good will donation” was suggested by them\, as our members may need to use the facilities indoors.  We will take up a collection. Avila was chosen because of its extraordinary spiritual energy. If you have never been there\, check out the website which has a video of the grounds.

DESCRIPTION:We often think of materialism as “consumerism”\, producing and wanting ever more and more stuff. Yes\, that is one of the results of materialistic thinking\, but it goes much deeper than that. Materialism\, belief that this world is all there is\, and that things are as we perceive them\, is much more insidious. It is in each one of us\, in the air we breathe and the water we drink\, in our educational systems and even in our churches. How do we find our way through materialism to the spirit? Can we get there from here?\nJohn the Baptist has said\, “Change your heart and mind.” One small change within us can bring about amazing results! It is as if the Universe has been waiting so long that one step in the right direction is met with tremendous encouragement.
